Thiel and BIOCOM partnered to produce a speaker system that is comprised of the DB1 head unit and 5 speakers and subwoofer that each contain a 250 watt amplifier and digital signal processors. The DB1 can communicate with the speakers either via a standard ethernet switch and cable or proprietary wireless technology. The representative couldn't go into more detail regarding the wireless technology it is using. The rep mentioned that the company did bandwidth tests by hooking the speakers into the company network. They didn't see any degradation in quality or noticeable latency of the sound. The speakers do need to be near a wall power jack.

The speakers sounded amazing and I couldn't tell the difference between the Thiel/BICOM speakers and traditional wired speakers. Most newer homes are prewired for ethernet and this system will make whole house audio a simple task or one can use the wireless capability. Now if the speakers used Wireless Power, it would be truly wireless.
